Frosted Flake Crusted Chicken Wings
Yields: 4-6 servings Prep time: 20 minutes (plus optional marinating) Cook time: 30-40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings (flats and drumettes, separated)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (smoked paprika for extra flavor!)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste, flakes add some sweetness)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk (or buttermilk for extra tender chicken)
  • 3-4 cups Frosted Flakes cereal, lightly crushed (you want some texture, not just powder)
  • Cooking spray or a few tablespoons of melted butter/oil (for baking)
  • Optional: Hot sauce or your favorite wing sauce for tossing after baking

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Wings: Pat the chicken wings thoroughly dry with paper towels. This is crucial for crispiness!
    • Optional (for extra flavor/tender): You can marinate the wings in buttermilk for 30 minutes to a few hours in the fridge before proceeding.
  2. Set up Dredging Stations:
    • Bowl 1 (Dry Mix): In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
    • Bowl 2 (Wet Mix): In another shallow bowl, whisk the eggs and milk until well combined.
    • Bowl 3 (Frosted Flakes): In a third shallow bowl, place the lightly crushed Frosted Flakes. Don’t crush them too finely; you want some flake texture for maximum crunch.
  3. Coat the Wings: Working with one wing at a time:
    • First, dredge the wing in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
    • Next, dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated, letting any excess drip off.
    • Finally, generously press the wing into the crushed Frosted Flakes, making sure it’s completely covered. Press the flakes onto the chicken firmly to ensure they adhere well.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Place the coated wings on a wire rack set inside a rimmed baking sheet. Leave a little space between each wing for even cooking. Lightly spray the coated wings with cooking spray or drizzle with a small amount of melted butter/oil.
  5. Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 30-40 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through, until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F / 74°C) and the Frosted Flake coating is crispy and golden brown.
  6. Serve (Optional Sauce): Once baked, you can serve them as-is for that pure frosted flake flavor, or toss them lightly in your favorite hot sauce, honey-garlic sauce, or sweet chili sauce for an extra kick!
